Natural Teeth Whitening

Many people today want to make their teeth whiter. Wherever you look, you see teeth whitening advertisements plastered all over the place nowadays. They’re on the radio, television and in magazines. Everybody around seems to have already done it, but you’ve been putting it off for a long time now. So which product are you going try out? Perhaps you’re in a position where you want to save money and you don’t really want to waste your money on a commercial whitening kit that may not even work.

There is much talk of natural teeth whitening these days. People are looking for home remedies to whiten their own teeth. But in the holy quest for a white, pearly smile, many end up doing more bad than good to their own teeth. One good example of a bad natural way of bleaching your teeth, is to use lemon slices on them. The acid from the lemon slices actually breaks down your tooth enamel and can weaken your teeth and gums for good.

So what exactly can you do to make your teeth whiter in a natural way that’s not going to destroy your tooth enamel?

First off, your desire to whiten your teeth can be used to kill two birds with one stone. By eating more vegetables such as cucumbers, celery, broccoli and carrots, you are brushing your teeth without even knowing it. These vegetables act as natural toothbrushes on the stains on your teeth. So not only will you be whitening your teeth by eating more of these, you will also adopt a healthier diet in the process!

Another method that will work a little quicker, is to use baking soda and salt to bleach your teeth at home. Baking soda does some wonderful things for your teeth. It can remove stains effectively, but it can also kill bacteria that cause plaque. It also neutralizes some acids that would otherwise have deteriorated your tooth enamel. Brushing your teeth with baking soda and some hydrogen peroxide can give you really nice results. But you shouldn’t make a long term habit of this. Doing it too often can cause irritation to your gums.

Yet another method of at home natural teeth whitening, is to gargle with peroxide. Keep in mind that you have to use the over the counter peroxide for this, and not the peroxide found in teeth whitener gels. Over the counter peroxide has a much lower concentration. Simply brush your teeth as you always do and then swish a little peroxide around your teeth. Make sure not to harm the gums. After using peroxide, always rinse your mouth with water.
